2020 Winter Programming

Here’s a preview of what the Stonebridge Community Association will be offering for winter programming. Online registration will begin December 26, 2019 and end January 15, 2020.

In-person payment drop-off will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 7:00PM – 8:00PM at the Community Resource Centre at the Chief Whitecap/St Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School Joint – use building (use Community Entrance.) A non-refundable membership fee of $10 per family per year is required to participate in programs and must be purchased or presented at the time of program sign-up (memberships expire each year on July 31st ). A fee of $15 will apply to late registrations. Programs may change. Please consult the website (ourstonebridge.ca) for the latest program information. SCA honours other community association memberships. Cost-as-a-barrier assistance and/or KidSport applications are available for those facing financial hardships. All programs are held at the Chief Whitecap School / St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic School building unless otherwise noted.

PRESCHOOL BALLET

A happy introduction to dance. Ages 3 & 4.

PRESCHOOL JAZZ DANCE

A happy introduction to dance. Ages 3 & 4.
Wednesday 6:45pm – 7:30pm.

HIP HOP

A happy introduction to dance. Ages 5 & 7.
Wednesday 7:30pm – 8:15pm.

PARENT AND TOT GYM TIME

Participate together in parent and tot open gym session,, where your child can run and play. Each class will have a few games to participate in or they can simply run around. The goal of this class is to burn off some energy in an environment with minimal structured play.
This class is open to ages 1-5 years old
Friday 6:00pm – 7:00pm
Dates: January 17th to March 20th (no session Jan 24th, Feb 7th, Feb 21st)

ART CLASS

Introducing children to simple fundamental drawing skills and understanding. Ages 6-12.
Wednesday 7:00pm – 8:00pm.
Dates: January 22nd to March 18th (no class February 19th)
Location: Community Resource Room.
Cost: $50 plus materials (kids should bring their own sketchbook or notebook and pencil crayons to class).

KINDER SOCCER

Learning basic soccer skills while having fun! Coaches are needed – please consider signing up to coach when registering (no experience necessary!)
Kids born in 2016 & 2017.
Choose either Tuesday 6pm – 6:45pm, Wednesday 6pm – 6:45pm or Thursday 6pm – 6:45pm.
Dates:
Tuesdays: January 28th to March 17th (no class February 18th).
Wenesdays: January 29th to March 18th (no class February 19th).
Thursdays: January 30th to March 19th (no class February 20th).
Location: Chief Whitecap School Gym (Wed) or Multi-purpose Room (Tues & Thurs).
Cost: $40

BABYSITTING COURSE

4 week course (2 hours each session). Course is aimed at 11*-16 year olds interested in taking responsibility for younger children. The Babysitting course, refreshed and revised, now has a greater emphasis on First Aid skills. The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. Babysitting promises to deepen and enhance the responsibility that older youth feel when caring for younger children. This updated curriculum, complete with new science, also provides improved learning when it comes to giving the appropriate care in the event of an emergency.
Tuesday 6pm – 8pm. Dates: February 4th, 11th, 25th, March 3rd. Location: Community room at Chief Whitecap School. Cost: $60 (includes personal first aid kit, manual, certificate.

Stay Safe!

6 hour course (2 hour sessions over 3 weeks). Children 9-13 years old, who are preparing to be able to stay safe at home on their own. Real-world scenarios often call on children to respond to challenges. The Stay Safe! program teaches applicable and age-appropriate skills, while increasing and reinforcing a youth’s capacity to improve his or her own safety. Whether in their community or on their own, this group will be given better tools to Stay Safe! in a variety of different situations.
Tuesday 6pm-8pm. March 10th, 17th, 24th. Location: Community room at Chief Whitecap School. Cost: $40 (includes manual & certificate)

YOGA

For participants who have yoga knowledge or previous yoga experience, this is a flow style class. Emphasis is on form and progression. Yoga mat required. Ages 16+.
Monday 7:45pm – 8:45pm.
Dates: January 20th to March 30th (No Class January 27th, February 17th, March 9th)
Location: Community Resource Room
Cost: $50

BARRE

Postures inspired by ballet and other disciplines. Isometric strength training, combined with small isolated movements, lift, tucks and pulses. Yoga mat required. Ages 16+.
Monday 6:45pm – 7:45pm.
Dates: January 20th to March 30th (No Class January 27th, February 17th, March 9th)
Location: Community Resource Room

SHINE DANCE FITNESS

High intensity mix of dance-based cardio and strength training for a calorie-crushing total body workout. Ages 16+.
Monday 6:00pm – 7:00pm.
Dates: January 20th to March 30th (No Class January 27th, February 17th, March 9th)
Location: Multi-purpose Room.
Cost: $40

PILATES

Beginner level. A modernized version of Pilates, to improve your strength, flexibility and posture. Ages 16+.
Thursdays 7:00pm – 8:00pm.
Dates: January 30th to March 19th (No Class February 20th)
Location: Multi-purpose Room.
Cost: $60

HIGH FITNESS

HIGH Fitness is an emerging leader in group fitness, inspiring people from all walks of life to a lifestyle of better health and overall wellness. HIGH transforms old school aerobics into a highly addictive new fitness experience that combines simple, modern fitness techniques (i.e. HIIT, plyometrics, etc.) with music you know and love. This results in a high energy, INTENSE and crazy fun workout that leaves participants feeling HIGH and wanting more. Ages 16+.
Wednesdays 8:30pm to 9:30pm. Dates: January 29th to March 18th (no class February 19th). Location: Multi-Purpose Room. Cost: $64

BADMINTON

Courts and birdies provided – no scheduled games – just come along, singly or in pairs/groups and arrange a game with other participants. Aimed at adults, but children are welcome when accompanied by an adult (18+). Family (Adult accompaniment (18+) required) – Monday 8:00pm-10:00pm. Dates: January 20th to March 30th (No Class January 27th, February 17th, March 9th). Adult only – Tuesday 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Dates: January 28th to March 31st . Location: Chief Whitecap gym. Cost: $15 per participant.

BEGINNER PICKLEBALL

Courts and nets provided – no scheduled games – just come along, singly or in pairs/groups and arrange a game with other participants. Ages: Adult (16+) Wednesday 8:00pm-10:00pm. Dates: January 29th to March 25th (no session February 19th). Location: Prince Philip School gym. Cost: $25 per participant. Program is in partnership with South Nutana Park Community Association.

ADVANCED PICKLEBALL

Courts and nets provided – no scheduled games – just come along, singly or in pairs/groups and arrange a game with other participants. Ages: Adult (16+). Wednesday 8:00pm-10:00pm. Dates: January 29th to March 25th (no session February 19th). Location: Chief Whitecap gym. Cost: $25 per participant. Program is in partnership with South Nutana Park Community Association.

VOLLEYBALL

Courts and nets provided – no scheduled games – just come along, singly or in pairs/groups and arrange a game with other participants. Ages: Adult (16+) Thursday 8:00pm-10:00pm. Dates. January 30th to March 19th. (no session February 20th) Location: Chief Whitecap gym. Cost: $15 per participant.
